Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is an activist in the field of feminist media also a speaker who is Canadian. She founded Feminist Frequency the website which hosts videos and commentary analyzing portrayals of women in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian as well as an American feminist media critic. Feminist Frequency is a non-profit educational website which explores the representations of females in the popular media narratives. The challenge of destroying stereotypes regarding women is her primary goals. However, Sarkeesian also highlights issues related to targeted harassment against women online and for other groups who have been marginalized. Sarkeesian also holds a York University master's in social theological, philosophical and political thought. Apart from being a popular public speaker she has made speeches at the TEDxWomen XOXO Conference and United Nations Broadband Working Group. She has been interested in gender issues and feminism since a early time. In 2009, when she was still studying at university she launched her Feminist Frequency website. She was a young woman who wanted to create the series of videos on the internet which would explore how gender is represented in video games. However, she became the victim of online harassment. But the harassment did not discourage her. She was only able to strengthen her position as a feminist journalist. In recognition of the many achievements she's made for feministism, she's the recipient of numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award award-winning journalist. She was also the creator and director of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit organisation that studies pop culture representations of females.
